G'day all,

I've just received an MS Security Update message from my laptop saying I need to update the latest security patch, and it said I have a total of 20 security update that need to download and installed. However 1 security update patch would not install so this means I've had 19 completed patch, and 1 wouldn't go through see screenshot below if anybody has the same issue.

Sorry Speedy, I had a search around and I don't have any answers that might help.
Why not update the system to 8.1 which would be required if you ever want to move to Win10.

Bob,

I've run the tool as you've given me that link and reboot, and run MS update again however this last download patch has been running for about 20mins and still going nothing is getting through still at 8%.

Patience!
There isn't any way to tell how quickly you're receiving the download.

Bob it has been going for nearly 5hrs and nothing is getting through and I'm not sure if this is a MS problem at the other end of the server, however I've download this patch from MS Download Center and this patch wouldn't installed because my OS wouldn't accept this patch. So it possible that this patch doesn't belong to my current OS, looks like a MS update screw up.

Not much else I can say. I don't run Windows 8. Upgraded 8 to 8.1 and then to 10. :)

I have exactly the same problem, failing at 8%. I also run win8.

Also when i look at "review update history" my system is saying i have never updated at all, plus i have never checked for updates apparently.

This must be a MS botch up

Sometimes when there are a lot of updates that have to be installed, it's best to do them in batches.( 10 or 15 at a time. )
Starting with the oldest updates first.
Many times one update depends on another update being in place. If that doesn't happen in the proper sequence,
your updates can fail. This is especially true if, like in your case, no updates have ever been done.

Hi bob,

sorry mate, i was being sarky about the updates bit.

I have always diligently updated on a regular basis but somehow my system has been wiped clean of any history of them. It also says that i have never checked for or installed any which is nonsense.

when i was unable to install this update although the other 11 installed correctly, i did a system restore which also failed due to something missing in the restore sequence. I then undid the restore & subsequently have ended up where i am now.

I have no way of knowing if the updates i previously installed over the last 2 years are in fact still on the machine but i assume that they are as when i now check for updates all i get is the latest failed one, plus another message that i have never checked/installed any.

sorry i appeared to mislead you

Usually update history is wiped out when a crash happens, nothing to worry about though as all previous updates will still be installed.

Thanks Craig, thats a weight off my mind. My system did crash i think as it would not shut down at all, it just kept saying do not turn off your computer. After about 2 hours i decided to do a hard shut down, so presumably that was when it wiped the system clean

You were actually lucky that the system rebooted and the only thing that was lost was some update history. :)
It could have left you with an un-bootable system. This could however present a problem when you're ready to update to Windows 8.1.
