As Tech said it will be gone now from system volume information and system restore along with all restore points, you start with a clean slate after disabling system restore.
Scanning archives will mean that scans take longer, archives by their nature are inert until you unzip them and run the contents. When you unzip it standard shield Will scan the (newly created or modified files) files that are extracted by default. So to my mind adding archives to a routine scan is not worthwhile.
My first scan after installing avast was a through scan with archives included, now I do a weekly Standard scan without archives.
If you want to scan archives then tick the option as Tech said.
When you use the method you stated, when you set the Sensitivity there is a box which you can tick to scan archives, see image (mine is likely to be different if you are using a different skin).
