No avast Web Rep allowed in Firefox
« on: September 29, 2015, 10:20:08 PM »
I don't understand why I can't use the web rep in Firefox?

I also can't post a screenshot?  I set it as an attachment.

Web Rep is to very old name for the Avast Online Security add-on.

What version of firefox are you using ?

Firefox had plans to disable all unsigned add-ons in FF 42.0 (if memory serves me right), whilst it may be disabled in your FF version It was available on my other system win7 ff 41.0. That said Mozilla have cancelled the planned disablement of unsigned add-ons.

In about:config check the xpinstall.signatures.required option it should be Status = 'default' Type = 'boolean' Value = 'false' see attached image.

I wish they would make up their bl00dy minds - aside from this is a bonkers idea - there are a wealth of old abandoned ad-ons that are still in use.

Before they implement this all add-ons currently available on the Mozilla site should be checked and signed. They also need to make it easy for users to request an add-on be checked and signed.

Web Rep is to very old name for the Avast Online Security add-on.  Got it, yes - I forgot the new name.

What version of firefox are you using ?  41.0, but just did an Update.  Now 41.0.1

Firefox had plans to disable all unsigned add-ons in FF 42.0 (if memory serves me right), whilst it may be disabled in your FF version It was available on my other system win7 ff 41.0. That said Mozilla have cancelled the planned disablement of unsigned add-ons.  I will try and Uninstall, and reinstall to see what happens.

In about:config check the xpinstall.signatures.required option it should be Status = 'default' Type = 'boolean' Value = 'false' see attached image.  Yes, this is good.  Please tell me, does this have anything to do with WindowsXP? because I am running Windows 7 on this machine
Answers in Blue above, I hope LOL.

I would forego the uninstall/install firefox just for now and check what is contained in the about:config first.

I don't feel this xpinstall.signatures.required option is directly related to XP, though it is quite possible. Just create a new tab to open about:config and in the search window just type either install or signatures and see what it displays.

If it does relate to the OS you installed firefox on, then it may be win7install or something like that.

Got it DavidR!

I was referring to Uninstall of the avast add-on, not FF.  Anyhow, the FF Update came in when I selected About FF.  Then I Enabled Avast Online Security add-on, restarted and all is good.

I think this had something to do with Sync.  I just installed FF on new install, and synced.  That carried avast over and perhaps it did not carry over well especially since the new version came out.

Thanks guys, I am now running avast again and hope it works out for me.  I did have an issue three times now.  I keep forgetting that Chrome is forced upon me in the last three installs I'd done, two for a friend and one mine here.  The problem being, I needed 64bit and the default is 32ibt.  In the future what should I do about that?  Is there a choice that I missed?
