I have Avast Internet Security installed and I have just purchased a Canin MG7550 printer which is connected through the network.
When I try to scan from a PC using the Canon utility the scan falls over saying that the network has timed out. I first tried opening all firewall ports on the scan utility but this hasn't worked, however if I disable the firewall completely then the scanner works perfectly.
I called Avast and got some total numpty who tried to tell me that because I had 69 spam mails in the past month my machine was infected with viruses and then he said I had multiple AV programmes that were causing the issue - he didn't seem to understand that Avast disables the Windows firewall! He hung up immediately when I told him that I design software systems
Anyone any idea what is going on, I hVe opened up all ports in and out for the Canon programmes I can identify but the scanner always fails until I disable the Avast firewall.
