Microsoft dropped support for gadgets many years ago, back around windows 7. Some time after that I believe avast also dropped the gadget as it could be a target for exploit.

So what avast version (latest 2015 10.4.2233) and OS are you using ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.7.6124 (build 24.7.9311.855) UI 1.0.811/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

What version did you update from? must have been old as there is no gadget anymore and as DavidR mentioned gadgets were dropped/not supported in the later era of Win7 and no gadgets at all in Win8 and 10.

I don't know how this is, if you only updated from the avastUI in the past it is possible that it may have remained. But If you did a clean install of 2015 I suspect it would have gone.

I have an image of avast 2015 custom install and there is no entry for the avast gadget.

The video I produced when Avast 2015 was first released also doesn't show the Avast Gadget.

As David already explained, it was a security risk.

@ -midnight  You may want to uninstall the avast gadget because as David pointed out it's a security risk.

@Para-Noid,

I don't have it installed.  Just posted the screenshot to show I had it in 2013.

BTW........the only reason I could show the year was because that was my desktop background and I had it saved in my pictures using a flash drive on an old win 7 computer.

If you're running a current version of Avast, you would no longer have it installed. :)

I am using the latest stable Avast version and I have Avast Gadget on my desktop.
It is also offered during custom installation. I guess that is because I'm on Windows 7.
Security risk story is just another BS from Microsoft to "upgrade" my OS to Windows 8/10.

Try doing a clean install and see if the option is still there, there many hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of avast users still using windows 7. I rather doubt that they have the avast gadget.

In all honesty, when the gadget was available in avast on my win7 system, I never thought it was bringing much to the party, so I got rid of it.
