Avasr AV name change
« on: October 11, 2015, 09:19:28 AM »
I had some problems with Avast and after it was cleared up,the name on the main(General)page became my email address instead of my User name as was before.Since I couldn't find "Help"I am asking Forum members as to whether this is possible to change(back to the User name)and if so,HOW?
Thank you.

Are you talking about your forum Profile ?

If you are the user name is your email address but it isn't displayed.

What is displayed in the forums is your (Screen) Name.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.Actually, what I meant was the the Avast AV site, when I click on it,in the right upper corner of the General view,my user name used to appear, but now it is my e-mail address is there instead.I would love to change that back to the user name-I don't really like my e-mail address there. In the Forum,i still have my user name(macko1944)which is fine.It is what is next to the "Points"in the Overview page of Avast that I am talking about.I hope I managed to make this clear now.Can this be changed, and if so,how?Thank you again.

The use of the user email in the GUI has been there for quite some time.
If you take screenshots be sure to obfuscate your email.

Seems to be a trend -- an ever-growing number of sites requiring log-in (even if they permit you to stay logged in permanently, as they do here) have switched to using your email address as your "user-name" for log-in purposes.  If I'm having problems logging in somewhere, email addy is the obvious next thing to try.

In the case of logging in on the forums, that is taken from your my.avast.com account credentials and is checked against that.
