Hi,

since the last of December 2015 defs directory contains several old definitions subdir. I'm not referring to "_stream" uppdate dirs that could be more than one of course. For example today I've got defs stored from december 31 2015 to january 04 2016 version 00 and 01 as well as today streaming updates (from 01 to 05 subdirs at the moment I'm writing this post). Is it normal? Shouldn't Avast preserve the previous update as well as the actual one?

Thanks in advance and happy 2016 to all of you

Simone

Avasts housekeeping sould periodically remove these old defs sub-folders.

Mine contains the current one and the previous one only, give it a little time to see if it is removed as mine were.

This is my scenario...I've got the same issue on two different PCs with Windows 10 64bit......so for me it's a bug....started on 30 december.

It certainly isn't normal, so something is certainly not working correctly.

Have you tried an avast repair ?

Sure. Done...repair fixed the issue until two defs update were downloaded. Now I've got 3 subdirs with full defs update and no cleanup procedure at all. Next update will be added to the three already stored

Give it a little more time and see if it gets back on track.

Since you say you have this on two windows 10 PCs, do you have any backup or security based software on all machines, that may well be blocking this avast housekeeping ?

On one of this two PC Avast fixed the issue without any action by me. I've got now the actual update as well as the previous one. On the main pc (a desktop) issue is still there: at the moment I've got 4 VPS defs as well as the latest streaming updates. Let's see  what happens tomorrow.
On the affected pc I've got the Win 10 backup procedure that store automatically differential updates on an external HDD (but I've never done a restore procedure since I activated this backup).

I'm not familiar with the Win 10 backup procedure as I don't use win10, but it doesn't appear (from your description) to be locking folders stopping avast from doing its housekeeping.

If it was locking folders, I'm sure we would have seen more reports of this in the forums.
