Internal sound stopped working
« on: February 06, 2016, 02:08:34 AM »
Ive got a panasonic toughbook running windows7. After installing avast the sound stopped working.
Windows doesn't detect any problems, all drivers are up to date and headphone jack works.

I submitted a trouble ticket(172652) three days ago and haven't heard anything back.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a solution or an antivirus with decent customer support?
 Thanks

avast is trying to handle tickets within 10 business days.
Just have patience.

If you want help here, provide details.
What exact OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
Any error(s) in device manager ?

Windows7(32bit) service pack 1
Avast internet security 2016
avast cleanup
Windows essentials was originally installed and is still there
no errors in device manager
I ran sfc/scannow  It said there may be corrupted files unable to fix, but I cannot access the log.

thanks for the help.

There are several version of avast 2016.
Which exact one do you have installed ?
Have you already tried a repair of avast ?
Have you already did a clean installation of the latest one ?

Is that method showing you the sfc log ?

Used the method in your link but returned no results.
Originally I had gone through the cmd screen (Microsoft tech Support walked me through that)

That is a old(er) version.
I suggest to perform a clean installation of the latest version.

After doing so, reboot 2 or 3 times.

If you still don't have sound, install the latest drivers.
If still no sound and everything is listed correctly in device manager, it is more likely hardware or Windows problem.
To test that, get a live Linux cd/dvd and boot from it.
If you still don't have sound it is a hardware problem.
If you have sound in Linux, it is a Windows problem.
