Hi shiegy,

You are better advised to run Avast and a-squared together,
they are a perfect company.

They both seem to work fine together, no adverse reports on the forums.

I would suggest that when you run a-squared to do a scan that you temporally pause Standard Shield other wise each file that a2 accesses will also be scanned by avast. This if nothing else should speed up the a2 scan.

hey guys. i read the posts and i saw the high success rates so i thought i'd give it a shot. i've been witnessing some major shit in my computer. when it is idle, it tells me out of the blue that a trojan was found. this happened during the last 2 weeks, and it;s a different trojan but in the system restore file. i had the

Win32:Trojan-gen. {VC} twice,

Win32:NucRat [Trj] 5 times (!!),

Win32:Trojano-1333 [Trj] twice,

but the trojano-1333 also infected my ntuser.exe file in WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER.
i need some major help plz.

Turn off system restore , delete all the restore points(sorry no other way) and run a couple of scans.Use the search function on the forum to find out how to turn off system restore. Put the ntuser.exe file in the chest.....

Hi Nicocohayek,

Please post in a new topic so people can see your post and respond. As you are here now, run a boot time scan with avast!, and also scan with Ewido, a-Squared, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

http://www.ewido.net/en/

(Links for other programs to be found earlier in this post.)

Please give names and locations of any malware found, because avast!'s malware names are not very useful- Trojan-gen, for example, can be all sorts of things.

I believe more in Ewido and a-squared than into Microsoft Antispyware, by my personal experience.
Other features (including configurability) is being taking account in my personal judgment.

The other aspect is, do you trust a beta product to take care of your system security, much less a MS beta product looking after your system security ;D
Especialy since much of the inbound security issues stem from poor MS security in the first place.

u have a good point. i'm currrently downloading Ewido anti malware hope it works as i expect.
btw, i turned off the system restore and scanned the pc but none was found. i scheduled a boot scan but is it guaranteed to find at least one file?

one more thing: my pc is running extremely slower than usual. is it only the low free space on C: (around 4 gb) or is there something else?

When you disable the System Restore the restore points (and their files) were deleted so, maybe, you won't see a detection anymore.

Is not that easy to say... Do you use a firewall? Is there anything strange connecting to the Internet?
Which programs are you using in the background?
Which is your avast sensitivity, High or Normal?

success! i got rid of the trojans but i;m having a problem with adware. they seem to install by themselves. i can fix that somehow but i have a question about firewalls:
I cannot connect to MSN Messenger  :( it keeps  telling me i'm behind a firewall or somethin.
1. i donnow how to modify successfully my firewall settings on my XP and on Avast!
i searched everywhere and nothing helped.
2.if i am currently trojan-free, am i allowed to turn on system restore?
3.i have 50 processes runing i donnow exactly which are harmful and which are not
