Avast Sending Email as Me?
« on: March 10, 2016, 04:27:31 PM »
I received a message, from myself, today.  The "helo" in the headers shows my machine's name.

The Subject of the message is: Avast Free Antivirus

And the body was this:

Quote
Hi, I’m using Avast Free Antivirus and it’s great. Say goodbye to your paid antivirus, as Avast is totally free and performs even better in tests.

Download and try it yourself:

h t t p : //www.avast.com/get/UniqueAvastCodeHere
My Name Here

How do I stop this from happening?  First off, I don't use free, I use premiere.  Second, was this sent automatically, or was this something I accidentally pressed?  I'm usually not a clicker, especially in my A/V software.  I set it up, lock it down, and forget about it.

Thanks!

I thought avast only sent this embarrassing spam if you were on the free version...

Why is a paid user having to deal with this?

avast free 2279 (Windows XP), MBAM free

My concern, of course, isn't that it was just ME that received the e-mail but "all of my friends."  Of course, I have no idea where Avast gets the contact information, so it either went out to no one (some of my address books are empty), or to an embarrassingly long list of people.

I'd like to hear from Avast where it pulls this information from, because I'd like to make sure I know who it was sent to.

Did you send yourself a (test?) message or a carbon copy ?

Unless there is a bug or something went terribly wrong, avast is not sending mails signed with your name.

This is the email sent by the Secure Another Device feature.
Did you use that?
