I know I'm not on staff here, but just wanted to let users know anyways.
A few moments ago I got a screen shot of my reg.renewal with Avast-free.
No nags..

wonderwrench and others:

You need to link your email address to an avast account when you register. This will make the registration 1 year. If you don't link to an Avast account, the registration is short.

I found this annoying.

I did find that once you register with your name and email address, linking your email to an avast account, you can go into 'Settings' and click on the 'Account' section. There you can 'Disconnect' your email account again from Avast and still retain the new 1 year license.

Hope this helps some.   :)

You do "not" need an avast account to register and/or license your avast.
A simple verifiable email is all that is required.

I have helped set-up v8.0 for several other people. Not once was there a need to have an avast account.  :)

Hi. I'm registering just to post this.

I'm working under a tight deadline and I like to keep motivational movies on on my secondary computer to keep me going, but I've had this god damn idiotic Avast popup bothering me, and every time I try to close it, it pops up again 10 minutes later.

I DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ YOUR STUPID AD-RIDDLED POPUP, NOR DO I HAVE TIME TO READ THE EULA SO I CAN REGISTER THE SOFTWARE.

I'll register WHEN I HAVE TIME.

Remove the god damn popup, and pick up a book on proper software usability design while you're at it.

I guess you also didn't take the time to read the replies posted in here. ???
Simply renew and the renewal reminders go away.
It's that simple.   If that's to much trouble, remove the program and the reminder will also stop and,
so will your protection.

I found that switching to another Anti-virus provider and deleting Avast completely finally did the job.
This is exactly why I switched to a new provider: I would get a Fxxxing pop--up in the most importune times and the embarrassment was exponential. I called Avast and the guy told me they could do nothing about it. It PO'd me to no end that Avast would "*break in" to my home or business without permission or contract. I will not stand for this from anyone, even the Police have to have a GD search warrant to enter a private premise. But Avast must think they are God and don't need to be respectful of my personal space.
Avast you AH you could have sent me a GD email!!!!!! Now you've lost a customer for good.

*Define break–in: the act or crime of illegally entering a house, building, etc.,

1]
You are posting in a thread that is almost 3 years dead.

2]
You could have read the EULA

3]
Simple extend/get a new registration would have solved it.
