Will a smart TV get infected by a virus?
« on: June 25, 2016, 03:54:26 AM »
As mentioned in the subject of this topic, is it even possible for a smart TV to get infected by a virus? really curious since someone used the "browser" of our smart tv at home and as looked up on history the website he/she visited had a lot of pop-ups, though i did a double check on the url's using virus total and it came out negative of malware. I just want to make sure however.

I will try.. but are there any signs that my tv had been already infected? is this ransomware the only one in the wild at the moment?

The only one I've heard of yet. Is your TV running Android..?

I think not.. I think it's running on WebOS based on Linux kernel. should I be worried? though i did try to run the site(s) here on my pc and it didn't pick up anything. also ran virus scan(s) and even used virus total on the link(s).

Well i'll still observe on the following days.. thanks for the fast replies! just a last question.. if it were infected the malware would've tried to ask for "Admin Permission/s" correct? or if the web browser was hijacked it would open up suspicious pop ups or url/s?
