You are not the only one, a lot of others experiencing problems beyond repair with the newest program update. Starts to say the background protection is off, then when you want to enable the shields etc won't repair or set back to settings with error messages.
There must be some bugs in it, as I have never experienced this. Again SafePrice extension going into the browser as I thought that would be on hold for the time being. Real pain in the glorious behind, this program update. Hope we soon hear the problems have been solved.

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

Well after a repair, generally it doesn't ask for a restart, but when we suggest using the avast Repair, we also suggest a restart. This is a kind of belt and braces as in some cases a restart can be an effective way of getting avast running again.

Is this CTFMON.EXE which is a windows file, but has been misused or a fake copy.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/282599

CTF Loader is also associated with MS Office, so it is hard to say if that is the issue if you has MS Office ?

I wouldn't risk it friend. If you're on Windows 10 just enable the built-in Windows Defender until Avast gets around to fixing. Shouldn't take more than a day or so but with the weekend upon us, who knows.

you should be okay with games, but with internet just browse safely. install another antivirus if makes you feel better. try uninstalling avast from the control panel, windows defender should unlock itself eventually..

Same problem, nothing seems to make it go away.  I checked Windows Action Center and according to Windows, Avast is working!

Yep, I have the exact same issue.

Avast installs OK, but breaks down after the first reboot (Windows 10).

I tried un-installing and re-installing twice. Second re-install was using the offline package. Same issue each time.

Hope the Avast team can fix it soon... at present I don't know if there's a rootkit or something else preventing Avast from running after the boot.

To give a bit more added data to this issue. After a fresh install, completely formatting a hard drive, then reinstalling Avast as the very first thing done I'm still running into this issue. Seems to be an issue with the product itself an not any type of virus/rootkit/malware that was previously on a system. Another problem I'm running into was that the Virus definitions "Current Version" is showing up as Unknown and no connection established. Program itself has a version of 12.2.2276 (Build 12.2.3126.2) with the release date 12/31/1969 7pm.... for obvious reasons I highly doubt that information is correct.

This comes at the same time where trying to log into the primary avast site halts at about 25% and trying to sign into the Antivirus program itself shows up with an error "Internal server error!" with an unsuccessful attempt (Wrong password/username still displays the proper error). Seems as though Avast is having some internal issues that need resolved quickly since it's causing issues externally.
