Windows XP Service Pack 3 Not Due Until 2007

Microsoft has gone public with a tentative date for its third service pack for Windows XP. And that date — the latter half of 2007 — is considerably later than many company watchers were expecting.

Microsoft has published the due-date for Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) on its Windows Lifecycle Web site. While Microsoft characterized the date as "preliminary," it is still as much as a year later than a number of customers, partners and industry analysts had been anticipating.

Many people with Dial-up had to download SP2 over night.  Luckly SP2 came with my CD, but when SP3 comes out... :o :o

Dial-up can be a real pain, if you tried to download the 266MB SP2 full update would take over 17 hours at 4 minutes per 1MB (imposible on some dial-ups with a 1, 2 or 4 hour kick off limit), so mine came from a copy of PC Pro's CD Cover disk. The same might be true, assuming I'm still using XP Pro as and when it comes out sometime in 2007.

The reason that M$ has decided to delay the release of SP3 is so it can get it's next cash cow (Vista) to the market & rake in the profits.

Microsoft said that it will delay SP3 untill after Vista goes gold.

So much for them sayin that security is it's main focus, that goes out the window when there is lots of money to be made.

Also support for XP home was to end at the end of this year & was only extended when M$ got lots of complaints & questions from folk askin why ::)

I am betting they will delay SP3 for as long as they can.

I just think they don't want to delay Vista any longer, it was already delayed for SP2, so it makes sense to delay SP3 for the release of Vista.
