Just updated to the new win10 version.. few questions.
« on: August 09, 2016, 08:30:35 PM »
I'm getting notifed to turn on windows smartscan.. is this normal?

I'm also getting notified that windows defender needs to scan my computer, is this normal?

Should windows defender be on? I've already got Avast and malwarebytes installed? how do i turn windows defender off?

Ok I just noticed that Avast is set to off in security and maintenance.. how do I turn it on? when I highlight avast the buttons are shaded and unselectable?

Ok got avast back on.. does windows smartscan supposed to be on or off?

I'm unsure of what you mean by turn on Windows Smart Scan

I don't know what is asking you to turn on the Smart Scan. Avast has a Smart Scan.

The Smart Scan would neither be on or off, it doesn't have an on or off state. It is run by the user when they want to run it. I can't recall if when you install avast new or clean reinstall of the program it asked do you want to run it. But it shouldn't be asking to constantly run.

A screen shot of this notice to turn on windows smart scan would help.
Windows Defender when avast is installed, it should switch itself as a resident AV, but can be on as an on-demand scan. I don't know if this is where the confusion lies.

Well SmartScreen is somewhat different to Smart Scan, which is why I sought clarification by screen shot.

Browser or OS level ?

If it is SmartScreen on the IE browser and you have it on then there is a possible conflict with avast, the avast browser security extension (not sure about the avast web shield also). Only one of my IE Browser versions is compatible with SmartScreen and I don't have it enabled (IE11 on windows 7 SP1).

OS

Given what is in the text I'm not clear it isn't also set on your browser.

Provided you don't have it in the IE browser (or windows smart screen doesn't include the browser) you should be able to take advantage of the avast on-line security extension.

I do have it in the IE browser.

Then presumably you can't install the AOS extension.

But we are taking this a little off topic, whilst the OP hasn't confirmed what his question relates to Smart Scan or Smart Screen.

One last post for now.  I do have the AOS extension.

That is a surprise as many topics in the forums have found that they conflict and can use one or the other. I don't know if MS or avast have done anything to change this.
