A question with a flair of evill...
« on: February 02, 2006, 12:51:19 AM »
Well, while i suppose this may seem mutinistic or evil, I'd like to compare Avast Home free and AVG Free.

NO I AM NOT ASKING WHICH ONE IS "BETTER" OR "WORSE" IN YOUR OPINION ALONE

I'd like to have an intelligent questioning of differences, pros and cons.

Personally, if you really want to know, i prefer Avast.
Somewhat embarrassingly...Because of the pirate skin  =[)!!! I consider them equal in capability...And so...Ya...:)

PS, I'm sorry if this is against the rules. Unfortunately, i didn't see any readily available rules section. However, I'd think it Un-Avastish to be so old-fashioned as not to allow comparative unbiased discussions about other problems. After all, I'm not flaming avast since i personally prefer it, nor am i trying to rally avast users to use AVG.

Since this is an avast! support forum you are unlikely to find many current AVG users so how can we compare.

I haven't used AVG for over 20 months, so I can't compare against the latest version as the two AVs aren't compatible on the same system. Based on previous feedback avast is more flexible, configurable, provides more functions and is much easier to update. That is based on recent happy converts to avast! from AVG.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Probably. Nevertheless, the two seem to sprout up everywhere together.

"Oh, i was an avg user - switched to avast"

or

"oh, i was an avast user - switched to avg"

It seems, often people have used both.  There is a considerable chance that i might find a user who recently switched or is considered/ tested one way or the other.  Sure, its a little (OK, very) slim.  But, I'm fine, its not as if I'm not already a total 24/7 forums geek.  Check out my 7 tabs with forums open in FF. lol!

Hello,

I have used both avast! and AVG I started with avast! then heard about AVG so put that on. Compared AVG with avast! liked avast! better and took off AVG and kept avast!

Hello Justin. I do really appreciate your trying to help, but I'd like to clarify i truly want to know WHY people prefer this or that.  I've read dozens of online forum questions like this. Unfortunately only ONE, that i read, explained why.   The thing is i cant simply have people saying "I prefer this" or "I prefer that". I really want to know why "X" is good or bad and why "X" has any better attributes.

Thanks,

Hello,

You are asking very good question. My answer is I prefer avast! because it has more options, more shields, and in my opinion a better GUI that you can change with skins. So in my opinion avast! is much better. I hope this answers your question.

Indeed it does, thankyou :)

Btw, i thought AVG Free upped its par. It originally lacked Avast's email scanner, but now has one? Anyway, i'll look into the missing scanners - thanks!

looking for more opinions/facts/results/whatever,

Thanks!,

A little off topic -

Anyone know why it says "I'm a llama" underneath my username?

While the secret may be true...How on earth did it get there?!

It's the default message in the board configuration; you can edit it in your profile, I think.

It will eventually change on it own after a number of posts.
