trouble updating skype

so for the past few days avast has been telling me theres an update for skype to version 7.28 but when avast tries to update i get this error
"The version after running your software upgrade/update/removal does not match the required version. Please try again or later install the update manually."
The same update applied just fine to my laptop. skype itself says there is no update and i have uninstalled and reinstalled skype but still getting the error when updating.
This wouldnt be an issue if skype didnt keep randomly closing at times.

Reset the avast software updater and see if it makes a difference.

nothing is showing up on google though or even on the skype website atleast nothing that doesnt look like a scam site like skaip.com and filehippo links

ok so after alot of issues i finally got it updated. first i restarted my pc and the software updater stopped working so had to do an avast repair, after that i was still getting the error for the update so then i went to the logs and manually downloaded the update file avast was downloading and ran it myself and that seemed to work.

i still dont know why i cant find any info online about update 7.28.0.101 though, i even used my mobile on mobile data disconnected from my wifi to see if there was something in my network messing with the search results but got the same seach results there too.
