Avast AV Free Configuration
« on: October 02, 2016, 03:36:29 AM »
I just installed Avast- first time user. I called the toll free & told the woman I had some Configuration ?s. She said she doesn't know anything re Configuring- she only can tell me how to install. With a response like that I was ready to chuck Avast immediately, especially with the Avast documentation indicating that the toll free is for configuration ?s. But I decided to try the Forum.

1. I have two internal & two external drives. I want to set up a separate schedule to scan the internals & a separate schedule to scan the externals, e.g. Internals: daily at 9:30AM; externals: twice a week at 2PM. Confused as to how to do something like this.
Note: Is there a way to schedule my internals at system startup (boot)?

2. I created a Rescue Disk (USB) but the Avast instructions say something about recreating a Rescue Disk frequently- I've never encountered anything like that before with other AV software. Maybe I'm missing something?

3. I don't see an entry in right click Context Menu for Avast- to do a real time scan on a downloaded software app?

4. I've configured to scan for all conditions- when the results say 'outdated software' or  'performance issues' & asks me to resolve, will Avast let me see what is outdated & what the issues are & let me decide what I want it to do?

5. Secureline VPN: Avast says it's installed & running. But on the Avast site it says it needs to be purchased separately?

Also what are the differences between Premier & Internet Security? I may want to upgrade.

I know I'm asking for a lot of answers but right now I'm kinda confused (and frustrated by the response I got via the toll free).

Would appreciate help- thanks very much.

What you called is a third party that handles only a very limited amount of things for avast for free.
And yes, it is including configuration.
If you know the name of that person, please mention it here.

2]
Why do you think you are missing something ?
avast has that option for a long time as do several other av's

3]
It should be there if you right click a file/folder.
If not there is something wrong with your installation.
Perform a repair of avast and see if the problem is solved.
Before doing so, make sure any previous installed av is completely removed.

4]
Yes you can see what is detected and no you can not resolve everything as some things need a paid subscription for other software from avast.

5]
Secureline is not free.
It can be there is a trial installed

Also what are the differences between Premier & Internet Security?
Why not look at the avast website ?

Hi Eddy,
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner- been in the hospital.

Her name is Shawnee- really bad experience.

1. I'm OK on backups.

2.OK on Rescue disk.

3. Entry for Avast in right click menu is there- I didn't realize because it doesn't say Avast.

4. I took a look & saw the conditions/results- don't need subscription, I have other software that automatically notifies me re these conditions.

5. Running a Secureline VPN trial now. It doesn't stay connected (to a selected country)- it constantly disconnects after period of time. How do I keep it connected until I disconnect?

Also I have Avast AV scheduled to run at 2PM and it does- but it also pops up to run at 9:30AM- I don't understand why?

Thanks very much for your help Eddy.
