Got a BSOD today on my XP machine, a Dell Optiplex 755 with 4GB RAM and a 500GB Momentus XT hybrid HD-SSD.  The screen said it was caused by aswsp.sys, which is Avast's self-protection file.  That file is version 12.2.3154.8 last modified Sept 22, 2016, with file size 424 KB.  My Avast is version 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.19).

But ... in the same folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, I have an older file called aswsp.sys.1416508440109.  Last modified 11-9-2014 with file size 413 KB.  What is that?

Thoughts?  Thanks.
Various Dell Optiplexes running XP Pro SP3 32-bit, Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit and Win 10 Pro 64-bit.  Firefox with security add-ons.

And do what with it?  Are you an Avast person who will review it?
