Repair Avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

1] A paid version doesn't just simply change to the free version.

2] The free version has no expiration date.

3] Ofcourse you can remove avast if you want.

4] If avast was trash, you wouldn't have bought the Pro version.

The active code has a limited number of uses, so you could be hitting that limit depending on how many time you have used it.

You could download the license file again and use that.
Resend avast License https://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php, you will need to enter the email that you used when purchasing the license, e.g. the one that the original email with the link was sent.
