I am reluctant to update my Avast Free 12.3.228 to version 17.1.2286 because of the problems that people are talking about.

Please explain the process of Avast fixing the problems.
Are they continuously changing the offline installer that is at the beginning of this post so that it has fixes incorporated in it even though they don't change the version number?
Or, do you have to wait until a new version number is available with all the fixes incorporated?
Or, do you install 17.1.2286, and the fixes come in the form of daily updates with the virus definitions.

Approximately, when do you expect the fixes to be available?

Thanks for the help.

are also NOT willing to disable the HIPS part of the Comodo Firewall.
I've tried that, also by disabling the whole Comodo Firewall. Still no change...
And as much as I want Avast, because I'm a long time user, I don't want to uninstall the firewall because it's good.

@ grayowl, Most people aren't having any problems. :)
Or maybe they are not vocal about that. Comodo and Avast are both very popular, meaning they have lots of users, from which many with both on their systems.
I first asked your Support on Twitter about that, but then I found here many talking about the same problem.
I think there are a lot more who didn't came here or submitted feedback because it's easier, but the problem between these two apps is real and needs a fix, that's for sure...

Well, I hope for the best. A fix, that is. :)

I am also having the "Comodo" Problem. After the last update Avast stopped working. When tried fixing it, my operating System kinda broke. Several error messages from programs that couldnt be launched on startup. Had to set my system back and uninstall Avast in save mode. I hope this will get a fix :-/

Not sure what's happening. I have Comodo Firewall latest version with everything enabled and also everything enabled in Avast and i have not seen any issues yet. Though in the past maybe 6-7 months ago i have experienced problems opening files when i had AVG and Comodo installed at the same time. The solution was to remove AVG and use Avast. Back then the reason for me installing AVG was Identity protection. Had the same problems then with Bitdefender.

Question: what happens when I disabled the "Online Secutiy" add-on in Internet Explorer 9?

This system is running Win Vista and Internet Explorer 9. I had to do a clean installation of Avast 17.1.2286 because of reported issue of UI failing to load when Avast updated automatically. Then I found that IE 9 failed to work unless I disabled "Online Security" add on. I had to disable it then reboot my system and then IE9 works again fine.

So what is the effect of disabling this add-on (I left everything still checked in the Web Shield component as per default)? Does Web Shield protection still work? Thanks

At this moment of time, if you remove the Online Security add-on, you lose anti-phishing protection. You'll also lose website ratings when you search etc, I'm sure you know that one.

Other than that, the web shield protection still works.

Is there somewhere a help page which explain what programs/services to allow outbound for Avast 2017 to work properly?

with so many evagalists around, is this question really that hard to answer?

What do you mean by that? You mean which Avast services to exclude from some firewall or which services to exclude inside the Avast firewall? Please clarify your question.
