Decompression Bomb
« on: March 03, 2006, 02:08:25 AM »
The last time I ran a scan I received the following messages....

Disk D: Boot Record [E] The parameter is incorrect (87)

C:\Documents and Settings\Brenda Pereira\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\S353Q6ZH\cpselect[1].pd\cpselect[1] [E] The file is a decompression bomb. (42110)

C:\Documents and Settings\Brenda Pereira\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\S353Q6ZH\cpselect[1].pd\cpselect[1] [E] The file is a decompression bomb. (42110)

Does anybody know what a decompression bomb is and any suggestions?
Should I move it to chest, delete it or leave it alone? ???

Decompression bomb is just something that unpacks to an unusually big amount of data even though it's rather small (i.e. has a high compression ratio, for example). It's nothing to worry about, you are just informed that avast! will not try to unpack the archive (you may not even know that it's an archive, but it seems like it is) because it may take VERY long to process.

They are Temporary Internet Files, you can delete them  8)

Any suggestion with the parameter issue?
Click 'Settings' in my signature and browse for the 'default' settings. I'll let them this way into avast4.ini file.

[Scanner]
MaxFileSizeToExtract_Scanner=500000
MaxFileSizeToExtract_Resident=100000
MaxFileSizeToExtract_Mail=30000
MaxCompressionRatio_Scanner=90
MaxCompressionRatio_Resident=90
MaxCompressionRatio_Mail=90
CompressionCheckThreshold_Scanner=10000
CompressionCheckThreshold_Resident=10000
CompressionCheckThreshold_Mail=10000

If these vales aren't in your avast4.ini file they will be assumed by default  :)
