An application keeps crashing for me

I use a broadband monitoring application (non-propriety) that many in a group I belong to have no problem with, though many of them do not use Windows. I, however, find it crashes often.
I came upon a crash report today with .wer extension, which applied to the application in question, and in the body AVAST appeared.
Could the free version of AVAST AV be the reason for the crashes? If it could, I would appreciate guidance how permit the application, or otherwise to solve the problem. Please!

How should he know anything about what AVAST gets up to? His tool works OK with most ( a small group in internet terms).

Your response makes me wonder over the helpfulness of the forum! :(

As it is his tool and knows how it is working, he can check things.
Is his tool digitally signed ?
