Browser add-on with bad reputation
« on: May 28, 2017, 05:05:05 PM »
Hey,

Avast occasionally reports that I have browser add-on / extension with bad reputation called ''Maine''. Deleting the extension via Avast dosen't work and I can't find extensions called this from browsers. It is not listed as program either and search functions dosen't find it.
Avast / Malwarebytes are not finding anything.

Have you heard this before and what could cause this?

Hi Nahkuri,

I dont think you can block the extensions, however you could detect that your buttons are getting hidden and if so show a message explaining the user that they probably have such and such extension installed, with instructions on how to remove them. Will cover most cases. Info credits go to StackOverflow's Zig Mandel

On chrome see: https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/management

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
