Avast Free Antivirus- Online Security Browser Extension
« on: July 11, 2017, 06:26:46 PM »
Hi- I would sure like to know if that extension is compatible with Windows 7 operating system & Internet Explorer 11. I have it installed, but does not seem to work all the time.  I only see the Avast icon in the top right corner of my screen at times.  What can you tell me about that?

Thank you

Well Yes and No.

The problem being if you have the IE Smart Screen (I think that this is the name) enabled then I don't believe it will work.  The problem is I don't use Internet Explorer of (any version) so I can't test it. My XP pro system can't install it; I haven't got it on my win7 netbook; whilst my win10 laptop could use it, but that has Edge as its default browser.

I'm not even sure that avast on-line security (AOS) even supports IE11 any longer.

Hopefully someone using IE11 can confirm this or not.

Yes, I need to know if IE 11 is supported or not.  I turned off Smart Screen Filter & same thing.  I open IE 11 after it was closed for about an hour & Avast Online Security came right up.  That is VERY strange.  Anyone have any ideas on my problem?

Having turned off Smart Screen (that would potentially have been blocking AOS), you would have to restart IE11 to get it to take effect, it shouldn't need to be left off for a fixed period.

If after disabling Smart Screen, restarting IE11 and avast AOS works, then essentially you have answered your own question.

Go to settings, manage add-ons and see if you see the AOS addon listed.

I thought AOS now only supports Firefox, Chrome and Opera browser? Its been a while since I have seen it  available in a Microsoft browser.

Yes, AOS is listed.  I got the Avast icon to come up @ top right of screen @ address bar.  WHAT I DID was to go to programs and features> Avast> right click the program> change> repair.  I let it run (finished successfully), and tried my IE 11.  Voila, the Avast Icon comes up every time.  I suppose it is alright now, but still DON'T KNOW if  Internet Explorer 11 is supported by Avast Free Antivirus.
Thanks to all for your help.
