avast says my license is expired !
« on: October 28, 2017, 04:38:40 PM »
HI everyone, so i tried to fix this before going to the forum but not real sure where the support tickets go.     lets start with my issue, i recently as of a few months had my auto renewal go through so i have a license up till may next year.   My avast as of a few days ago said i was unprotected.   I tried entering my activation code as i found in my account that wont take, as like the license download....that also wont take.

so downloaded the support tool, generated a ticket...and just got a note icon for the ticket created on my desktop....so yea now im lost ?  what do i do now?  who answers the support? the phone number to avast just sends me to like a sales office.

i have the avast internet security i do pay for this.   Thanks any help would be great .

so windows 7 starter  sp1,  32 bit

before avast paid, used avast free.   Before that i was all over the place.

Windows defender prolly for a few years prior to avast, i think during purchasing this this i had norton av...that was a 60 day trial.

sorry I was only using this computer to do some quick bills and at the time i was doing some computer tuning with cars...needed something small to take mobile .

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

Then:
1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

let me ask you this.   is it weird that in the link you give me ...i can open it but anything in the avast site you have me going to will not open.  Like to check to make sure previous versions of security are not installed....i clicked on the w for windows defender....not a clickable option.

is this due to worried about being online so using a private window right now in chrome or something else.

i do thank you for your help this weekend...seriously much appreciated.

You can't uninstall Windows Defender, it's integrated in the OS.
Anyway, the link works for me: https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/11/#idt_000w

sorry im not sure there isnt another problem here.  I cant click on any of the items on the page to remove priors.  Hover the mouse over them and nothing to click on.   the cursor dont change.

This is weird to me my avast was "protected" and working fine not too long ago. This all just happen within the last month or so.

would you rather me just uninstall the avast then reinstall .  As far as i know i dont even have any programs listed that are old 'av's

ok will do....ill install it and go from there.   i also read a post about malwarebytes that you just told someone about.   I forgot when did a update to malwarebytes to set my exclusions...so wonder if that is my culprit.   I will reinstall and get back to you on my progress..

Well, Aysn,   i have cleared all the old stuff via the tool you sent me and rebooted in safe mode all that.  Reinstalled the avast like you said ,   still am unprotected.  No change.

I have to do some things today prolly wont be back on till later tonight or sunday night.  I will submit a reply to this then if that works for you.

thanks again for all your help,
