Using Sandbox to wipe external drive
« on: November 18, 2017, 11:01:18 PM »
I want to wipe files clean and reformat an old Seagate external drive (size 1 tb.). I'm concerned about introducing viruses from the ext. drive onto my laptop.

I have Avast Premier and my question is: Can, and should, I use Sandbox to safely accomplish this reformatting task?

Possible issues: The old external drive is partitioned using TrueCrypt. Partitioning was done using Windows XP OS. It has a hidden partition within an ordinary partition. Both use (known) passwords to access content.  When I plugged the drive in to my Win 10 laptop and tried mounting content (on a new drive letter), the laptop switched off and was inaccessible for 4 days. It finally responded as having recovered from a major incident.

Will I be safe using Sandbox or any other Avast tools?
