Rootkit Detection?
« on: May 21, 2006, 04:08:00 PM »
I have had some trouble with sluggish performance on daughters laptop (Celeron 900, 512 Ram). Avast detects a virus free system. Ad-Aware picks up nothing, infact it comes back with 0 resutls which is odd cause it normally picks up at least tracking cookies. Another Forum mentioned I may have a Rootkit on this system. What is the likelyhood of this and will Avast detect Rootkits?? Thanks for your help and input!! :-\

The likelyhood is fairly low if you are careful about what you download and do not go to crack or warez sites.  Avast AFAIK does not detect rootkits but F-Secure does.  For peace of mind download and run from here http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/cure.shtml
