Avast won't restore files from Virus Chest
« on: July 26, 2015, 08:28:13 AM »
Earlier today, Avast started blocking a file belonging to CDisplayEx (the file being called libwebp.dll, if you're wondering). I tried repeatedly to restore the file from the Virus Chest as I'm certain it's a false positive, but each time, nothing would happen after I clicked "Yes" on the UAC prompt. "Restore and add to exclusions" didn't work either, and neither did "Extract...". I've also reinstalled CDisplayEx multiple times, but Avast still kept adding the file to the Virus Chest (despite having added it to exclusions). This is starting to infuriate me. Is anyone else having similar problems and is there any way to fix it?

I have this same issue. I'm running Avast Internet Security Program version: 17.7.2314 (build 17.5.3559.176).

I updated Mirillis Action! from 2.5.5 to 2.8.0 without issue.

Action! starts normally, but when I start the game I want to record, Avast flags Action_x64.bin as IDP.Generic and moves the file to the Virus Chest.

Since I downloaded the installation file from the Mirillis site, and I've never had any issues with Action! previously, I assume that this is an FP. So I went into the Virus Chest, selected the Action_x64.bin file and did Restore on it. A pop-up say the file was successfully restored, but the file not to be found in its original location.

I tried to reinstall of Action! 2.8.0, but I get a pop-up from the installation stating 'Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mirillis\Action!\Action_x64.bin', but AIS says nothing about blocking writing the file to its installation location.

If I temporarily disable avast shields and reinstall Action!, and afterwards scan the installation folder, AIS says it has found no issues.

But when I start Action! again and then the game I wish to record, the same thing happens.

I have reported this as an FP already through the Virus Chest.

I've also discovered, if I right click on the system tray icon and open the virus chest from there, I get a different virus chest window than by double clicking the AIS icon in the system tray and selecting Protection -> Virus Chest.

In the window I open directly from the system tray icon I can right click on the virus chest entry and select 'Restore and add to exclusions' and that does restore the file, and does exclude it, which allows me to continue on with my work.

Yes, but the functionality is different between the two different UI's to the virus chest. The direct virus chest access seems to work, while the other does not.

Selecting the files is a bit different. Once you select the file, it works the same way.

Sorry, but my experience has been that they work differently.

Going though double-click icon in system tray -> Protection -> Virus Chest the only possible options are Delete, Restore, and Send to analysis.

Opening Virus Chest directly from right-clicking the system tray icon, the context menu offers: Delete, Restore, Restore and add to exclusions, Extract..., Scan, Submit to virus lab..., Properties, Add..., and Refresh all files.

I've attached two screenshots. Unfortunately the forum doesn't seem to allow adding them inline in the post.

As another member reported, if you close then reopen the Virus Chest it will let the "RESTORE" option appear.  I had the problem and that solved it for me.  I was so glad to find that solution here.
