online security tool not working in safari anybody else have this problem?

avast online security browser extension for safari not working in Mac (free version).  The Avast UI button works and indicates that the tool is active but there is nothing in safari indicating that it is installed.  No toolbar icon, nothing in the extensions tab of safari preferences. The only way to disable it is to uninstall the whole program and reinstall. OS is up to date.

It does not appear to be supported in the paid for version eithet. This really sucks - I only chose avast as it was recommended in a book I bought on Mojave and i find that it does not support safari - that is REALLY poor.
