Dual Boot system (VISTA/XP) & DSME virus
« on: June 25, 2006, 10:05:32 PM »
I have a dual boot system with Windows XP and Vista Beta 2, I have just done a manual full system scan using version 4.7 for XP and the BCD and BCD.log files have come up as "infected by DSME Family". These are the new boot.ini files for vista so deleting them or modifying them could leave the system unusable. i have scanned them with 4 online scanners and have not got the same problem, is this an Avast issue? I have emailed the files to Avast but has any one else come across this?

I haven't heard of this so far in the forums.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can't do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.
Or VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists (Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced and Program Settings, Exclusions) and check scan it periodically using the ashQuick scan (right click scan), when it is no longer detected then remove it from the exclusions.
Also see (Mini Sticky) False Positives
