I found ashDisp and added it to startup it says

aswCmnOS.dll was not found i scanned my HD and there it was so whats the problem with the icons?

The issue with the icons is likely to recur if the cause wasn't avast.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?
As a temporary measure you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers).  Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut).

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

xoftspy has previously been classed as a rogue anti-spyware program, see http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#xos_note for further information.

Do you have the TeaTimer element of Spybot enabled as this can interfere with new start-up items ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

Glad I could help, welcome to the forums.
I assume it was TeaTimer then ?

Personally I wouldn't use xoftspy, there would always be an element of doubt based on its history. I would include Ad-Aware to your defences.
