Hi Carl,

Thanks for your post. The simple answer to your question is No. The relationship we have with AppEsteem is that their ratings are considered as "recommendations" for us but are not used to e.g. blacklist concrete software packages. I.e. it's a data source (like many other data sources) that our team uses to help feed our databases, but the decision whether a given package is a "deceptor" or not is done solely by Avast and no one else (and we're then fully responsible for those decisions).

To that end, I cannot really say whether we'd consider your piece of code malicious or not, but I can tell you the following:
1) If we haven't considered it malicious so far, we are not likely to change that opinion anytime soon, and
2) You paying any money to AppEsteem will certainly make no difference to our decisions either way.

Many thanks
Vlk

My understanding is only Avast, AVG (owned by Avast) and Eset use Appesteem's "deceptor" list.
Sophos also use it

Avast already stated that they use this as a tool along with many other tools.
Final decision is always made by Avast. Why would they stop using something
that may be helpful ???

This forum really isn't designed to address your concerns and should be discussed directly with Avast.

Thanks, Avast, AVG and many others did whitelist our software. But Avast/AVG would only whitelist our software after Appesteem stopped classifying us as a "deceptor."

My forum post isn't requesting whitelisting, its a question regarding Appesteem's upcoming threats and what Avast's response to this is.

To be fair - Appesteem's attorney did finally respond to my email less than an hour ago and seemed a bit more reasonable than Appesteem's owner who tends to sound a bit like a politician in his answers.
You've already received a response from Avast. Anything else should be directed to Avast support.
This is the wrong venue.
