Don't laugh when you read this!

Just down loaded avast.  I discovered the scanner program running.  How  it started  I  don't know. 

The scanner has been running for 6 hours.  It is now on Standard Shield and Web Shield.

What the heck is taking so  long?

If you are talking about standard shield and webshield then as long as your computor is on they will be running

Well if you mean this thing (marked with red), then, thats perfectly normal. It just shows for how long has selected provider been running.
