Avast Browser problems for TAB hoarders.
« on: July 19, 2018, 10:31:34 PM »
While it was installed without my consent, I still like Avast Browser, however during past week or so, I came across couple annoyances and few rage inducing issues. This post is for annoyances.

I'm the person, who likes to have multiple Tabs open so I could view/read some of them later + add searching for job and you get 80+ Tabs open. Now, with already established Browsers that isn't a big issue - their performance varies in that regard, but you can still use every single one of them to 120+ Tabs and you won't see any big problems apart from hit to performance due to 5600 rpm Hard-Drive getting involved.

My issues with Avast Browser are that you get that hit to your performance way, way sooner - we're talking maybe 40-50 Tabs, as opposed to like 80 on other Browsers. Plus, after ~80 Tabs, when you open up a new Tab, it does not show up in "Tab bar" alongside others. I did the test - it's there in the Tab bar (to the right of all others), but it's beyond that point where you can see it. This is ridiculous - you have a Tab opened - it uses up RAM, but you can not get to it, nor you can close it, because there is no way to click on it. That is a huge issue that need resolving.

If you don't want to compress Tab Icons in the Tab bar like Chrome and Opera does, do what Firefox does - give us arrow keys to navigate the Tab bar. Or give us a drop down key so we could see all the tabs with their page names, so we could select them easier.

Also, Avast shouldn't be "Open up on Startup" by default - this is absurd. So if i have ~60 Tabs stored in memory, and the Avast Browser pops up on start up to load them up, how do you think it's going to affect start up time? Yes, it's part my fault for forgetting to turn that stupid option off, but really, it shouldn't be on default regardless of amount of Tabs, when you installed it without users consent.

You Verification is almost unreadable - are you trying to discourage your users from giving feedback?

Verification only happens for the first 3 posts. Prevents Spammers abuse.
The browser doesn't open at system start on my system. Check your settings.
If you intend to use that many open tabs, may you need to look into something like One Tab.

Avast Secure Browser would only have been installed if you originally used the older Avast browser.

I really like Avast Browser, and it's a shame it's being held down by issues that were solved years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing upgrades implemented that fix these problems. Moreover image how great it would be if the plugin that you linked would be implemented into Avast browser by default. Is there a reason, why it couldn't be?

Prior to this I had no Avast Browser on my system, nor I have heard of it. It was a pleasant surprise to see it pop up out of nowhere when i started up my computer, as I was thinking of getting another browser for a while.
However it came with a ticked option "open on startup" by default. And I had to go to options to turn it off. That's just how it was.

I've used this browser since early beta days before it was ever released. Sorry but there was no such pre-requisite to start browser at startup. If that's your experience than uncheck that option. You can install that exgtension via the link I supplied. All you need to do is allow it's installation.

Thanks for extension link :)

But I think you're not seeing my as a consumer point of view. Since I was introduced to this Browser just recently, with little to no explanation about it, there is no way I can think that "What if I tried to install Chrome Browser plugin on Avast Browser" - it's not intuitive at all. Since this Browser is suffering from "large amount of tabs" problems by default, I believe that this plugin, or solutions I mentioned previously, should be integrated into Browser by default (on install).

To repeat, I understand that with this plugin problem disappears, but there is no way the masses that use this browser know of the solution (it really isn't that intuitive) or care about the solution, because they can simply go to any other browser that got it right by default (as in without plugins).

A problem solution for Tab Hoarders needs to be integrated part of the browser just like with all other browsers. It is simpler to get back to your problemless old Browser than to search for problem solution in forums for a new browser.

I wish for Avast Browser to succeed and due to this I hope you forward this issue to the developers.

This browser is designed for security. Since it's built on Chromium, Chrome extension also work on this browser.
The developers also see what's posted on this forum.
