Suggestion for improving page layout
« on: September 02, 2018, 04:31:36 AM »
How about starting the tabs a little closer to the top of the browser window?  That would provide a little more space for seeing content with the browser.  Everyone dreads having to spend a lot of time scrolling.  Showing a little more page content in the browser window will help alleviate that problem.  There is too much grey space above the tabs that could be used to display page content!

Screenshot would be helpful. This is what I see and don't know what gray space you mean ???

If I open Chrome, I see the same thing ???

Does it matter where the tabs go they take up screen real-estate.

Whilst I'm not using ASB, the concept for Chrome would surely be the same.
1.  I have Firefox ESR on one XP system that allows me to place the tab bar directly above the URL content.

2.  On my win10 laptop I have the latest version of Firefox and that doesn't allow me to use the add-on (I used on the XP system) and the tabs on that are almost at the very top of the screen. If I remove the Menu bar, then the tabs are at the very top of the page.

Whilst there is a marginal increase in displayed content, that is because I removed the menu bar.  Just moving the tab bar shouldn't increase the viewed content.

Of course as Bob suggested a screen shot would help us understand the problem.

Would someone please explain to me how to add an image to a post?  I have a .jpg file that shows the grey area.  I see there is an "Insert Image" button when replying to a post, but I don't know how to use it.  Does this site host images?  If not, where should I put the image and how do I reference it using that button?  I tried the Help for this forum, but I couldn't find how to do this.  Please guide me!

When I attempt to reply, there is no Attach option.  I think it's because I just started using this forum and there is some minimum number of posts that I must make before the Attach option appears for me (sigh).

It should be there right from the start, clicking the Reply option at the bottom of the page (image1) or the Quote option in a post you wish to reply to it should be below the text window.

However, if you are using the Quick Reply option you may not see it as it just shows a text window, in which case, there should be a Preview button and that should give you the full Reply window including the Attachments and other options, image2. Clicking that text should expand that option.

What are you using when trying to Reply laptop/desktop or mobile phone ?

I am so accustomed to seeing links in a color such as blue and underlined that it didn't occur to me that the gray "Attachments and other options" was more than a section title.  It's actually a link that expands to show posting options and how to add an attachment!

The attachment shows a gray space that is above the tabs.  This is how the Avast browser appears on my laptop using Windows 10.  I realize that this is usually the window title area, but there is no window title.  If the gray area is decreased so that the tabs are higher, more content (a little more) would be visible.  It seems that most screens on laptops have a landscape orientation these days and any increase in vertical content space is welcome.

Speaking of increasing vertical content space, how about a browser setting that turns off tabs?  Use the space that is normally used for a row of tabs as more content space and put into the window title area what would have been on the tab.  This would work great for those who only want to look at one page at a time and for those who want to use a separate browser window for each page that they have open.
