Avast Business Cloudcare 4.4.4 and XP
« on: November 19, 2018, 03:26:26 PM »
Has support for XP clients in Business Cloudcare ended at 4.4.0?

All of my endpoints have upgraded from 4.4.0 to 4.4.4 except the very few XP machines we have.

Before anyone jumps in with "why are still running XP?" - we have plant for which the necessary PLC diagnotic/programming software will NOT run on anything newer than XP. We also have a £15K spectrometer, the very specialised software for which will also not run on anything newer (and no - there are no upgrades available).

Much of Tesco's self service checkouts run XP LTSB (the newer ones are dire).

Windows XP will no longer receive future 19.x versions of antivirus. You can read about that change here - https://blog.avast.com/no-support-for-windows-xp-and-vista

Anything else remains the same for now. Your Windows XP machines will keep receiving antivirus definition updates.

Hi,

Yes I'd read that and appreciate that as from v19 XP will no longer be actively supported in terms of client module updates, only virus definition updates.

However, in updating from v4.4.0 of Business Cloudcare to v4.4.4 all my endpoints are currently showing as antivirus v18.6.2540 - that includes all the Windows 7 and newer which have updated to 4.4.4, AND the XP machines which for some reason have NOT (or will not) update to 4.4.4.

So what in 4.4.4 in NOT compatible with XP or preventing the XP endpoints from updating to 4.4.4?

As all are (claiming) to be running antivirus v18.6.2540, this is a questions specifically about Business Cloudcare 4.4.4 and NOT the antivirus component.

Are you sure you have all system updates installed on those Windows XP machines?

By system updates do you mean from Microsoft?
Yes. All are SP3 with every update applicable as released by Microsoft to date.

Interestingly ALL endpoints (after yet another round of reboots) are now showing AV v18.7.2544 except for one (Window 7) endpoint which is off and can't be woken remotely (it is on WiFi). This INCLUDES all 3 XP machines (which are on two different sites). However, they still show CloudCare Agent 4.4.0 while all the other endpoints show CloudCare Agent v4.4.4.

Interestingly I see the bug of the agent reporting bogus Automatic Private Addresses instead of the endpoints real IP address is, if anything, getting worse.
