avast slows down my pc
« on: November 15, 2018, 11:45:09 AM »
The problem is, on bootup avast starts as it should then it goes offline until comodo starts which takes several minutes, the problem started when avast started inundating my pc with popups which are spoiling a good program, and I get the feeling that avast goes offline until all the popups are loaded, which is slowing down comodo's boot-up?
I have used avast for over 10 years and I would like to continue using it but it's getting harder, any ideas welcome
Robert

Simple solution is to get rid of Comodo. (It's a personal solution.) :)

Solution is simple:  Keep only one security solution and get rid of the other:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=211973.0

Do what bob3160 recommends.

Comodo doesn't like Avast anyway.  Going without protection for 10 minutes is too long.

Hi again, sorry for the late response, I was waiting for the usual email alert which did not come so thanks for the suggestions, I have used Comodo as long as I have Avast probably more than 10 yrs with no problems as it is also a very good program.
My system is Win 7 Pro 64 bit and the AV I was probably using before Avast would be either AVG or Avira (free) and the version I have always used is Avast free and it has always been very good, I just cannot figure out why it won't work with Comodo after all this time, regards Robert

Security software code changes constantly deep within the OS.
I have found in my experience, due to software updates (code changes) not to mention OS Updates that it is not unusual that programs will co-exist and then not, 'especially' with Security software.
I used too, years back run both Avast and Comodo however not now. As a matter of fact, these days, even if I totally remove Avast, Comodo does not want to even install. Just saying  :)

Hi again, does this site send email alerts when a question is answered? and thanks for all the info, you think it could be an update scrambling things, although I am fed up of Avast telling me my pc needs cleaning is there a way to turn off the warnings? if I can do that swapping comodo might be an option, but is there another firewall as good or as easy to run, as I said earlier they have worked together very well, and still do, and I have not had a nasty in 10 yrs, it's just the very slow startup which bugs me, regards Robert

1. Hi again, does this site send email alerts when a question is answered?
2. is there another firewall as good or as easy to run...
1. Yes, you can adjust it in the forum settings.
2. Since W7 the Windows FW is quite good, use it.

Thanks, I've hopefully turned  on notifications, but sorry I don't have your confidence in WF, as I premised earlier after 10+ years of reliability of both Avast and Comodo the problems have only started with the increase of popup rubbish and I think it may be possible that it's the popups which are slowing down the Avast boot up so if anyone knows if there is a way of stopping the popup rubbish from immediately loading it might return Avast to the good program it once was, if not Avast may continue it's slow boot-up even with a different firewall, regards Robert

Hi, thanks for the guidance, I have reduced the pic's by 30% for transfer, the first pic shows Avast going offline which lasts for about a minute & 20 secs + then Comodo will start or a warning of some sort will show, regards Robert

As has been mentioned, in the past Comodo has conflicted with Avast, the comodo firewall in isolation used to be OK, but by all accounts it is more than just a firewall.  I have never used Comodo products so I can't speak from personal experience only what I have seen in the forums in the past.

The second image (the bottom portion) is basically an Ad for an avast paid product, CleanUp and the Resolve button would ultimately lead you to the purchase of the paid version of CleanUp.  I do not like this form of advertising at all bordering on scaremongering.

It might be a good idea to do a Clean Install of Avast:
https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf
If you need additional help with the Clean Install, watch this:

After removal and before the install, please watch how do do a customized installation
and avoid installing those items that you may not want installed.
