CD/DVD not working after avast install

I just installed avast, it works great except now the CD/DVD drive will not read a disk. Explorer shows nothing in the drive, anything that needs to read from the drive errors. But I can burn a multi session disk with Nero Express, it just wont read anything on it from any other app. I ran Nero speed test, and it see's the disk there also. Device manager shows no problems with the drive.

Edit...
I can watch a DVD only by opening Nero showtime and playing from there. While the movie is playing, explorer is not showing anything in the drive.
Hope someone can help, I really want to keep this AV program.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

I have seen a similar issue in the forums and it was related to remnants of another AV (NAV I believe) in the virtual device drivers side of registry keys.

No other AV was ever on the system, I think I narrowed it down to my (Retrospect 7.5) backup software. It seems to take over the CD drive while the software is running, even though it wasn't using the drive for anything.
So problem solved and thank you...
