Files become shortcuts in USB DRIVE; file location cmd.exe
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:47:08 PM »
Hello. I am in urgent need of help. Posting here after trying everything on google.

Yesterday, when I attached mu USB Drive to the laptop, suddenly all the files and folders, specially those which contained pictures & videos became shortcuts with the extension .ink. The file location is somewhere in C drive Windows in 'System32'. There was few forums back from 2013 and 2014 which seemed helpful to people, please guide me further what to do. I need my files urgently.

The attached files are the initial logs after downloading and scanning through 'AdwCleaner, GMER & Farbar Recovery Scan Tool'.

Waiting desperately.  :(

I downloaded McShield and run the program, attaching my USB drive as well. That is D:/

The attached file is its log. It is copy/paste here as well.

=> The drive is clean.

Your PC is not infected. Can you see your files on USB drive after MCShield install?

And whenever I click any of those 1 kb shortcuts (which were large folders with a lot of pictures and videos), dialog box appears "Windows cannot find 'Files.bat'. Make sure you typed the name currently, and then try again."

And then suddenly, folder 'Documents' popped up infront of my screen. I dont know whats happening. Is there any way I can recover those shortcut folders (all my precious pictures & videos)???

Open USB drive in File Explorer. Then hold SHift button and click on mouse right button. After that click on Open command window here (or Power Shell window). Command Prompt or Powershell windows will appear. Type following command and press Enter:

Code: [Select]
attrib -h -s /s /d

Please follow this instructions to show hidden files. Beside selecting Show hidden files, folders, and drives, uncheck Hide protected system files and folders.
