Bad ADNM install
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:55:31 PM »
I have an ADNM install that keeps failing.  "Error while installing MSDE: 0x00000643".

Please send the file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools\setup\msde.log

Thanks

Looking at the log, I have an impression that the installation fails because MSDE is already installed on that machine.

Do you have another instance of MSDE installed on that machine? If so, is it a named or unnamed instance? Did you use the default "avast" instance name when installing the AMS MSDE?

Also, what subfolders are there under the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder?

Thanks

This machine is a domain controller and runs WSUS which uses MSDE.  I have, however, successfully installed ADNM on a similarly configured server.

MSSQL$WSUS and 80

Many Thanks,

Do you have any new insights on how to fix my problem?

While googling around, I have found some information that the MSDE install already present on the machine (the WSUS instance) must be of the same version as the one we're trying to install as part of ADNM. Do you have any idea which version it is? (I suppose MSDE 2000, but what service pack?)

Thanks

Solved the problem by entering the following in a dos box.

"lodctr /r"

this resets some performance counter settings in the registry.
