Behaviour Shield + Avastclear
« on: January 09, 2019, 05:22:54 AM »
Few days ago I upgraded my avast to version 18.8.2356 from 18.6. I felt compelled to do so due to the fixing of that critical vulnerability. I noticed that Behaviour Shield behaved erratically by turning off specially on start up. I did a repair but to no avail. Then I set aswbIDSAgent to automatic in services this worked for a day or two. Then I tried to do a clean install . During uninstallation right at the end Avast got stuck to : Deleting file C:\ documents and settings\all users\ application data\avast software\avast\html data\image 001.png  and winlogon spiked to almost 100% of cpu usage. After a forced reboot I realized my avast had been removed from my computer.
Could not use avastclear utility please see attached image 3. I installed avast but the symptom regarding B Shield persists. I did that quite a few times with no success. Also now when I start my computer Please see Image 1 of course as soon as everything is loaded it goes away. Once I set adwbIDSAgent to automatic and perform a repair BS turning off  occurs mostly at start up. Once I turn it on manually it stays on till the end of the day well not always.
Your help will be mostly appreciated. BS is driving me crazy. >:(
Thank you in advance

Can at least somebody tell me if I removed from application data the Htmldata file ( see image 2 ) and then proceed with the uninstalling of avast using revo , would there be any problem. Since using revo or add/remove unistalling gets stuck at Deleting file : c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\avast software\avast\htmldata\image 001.png
Anybody knows what htmldata does ?
Thank you

@bob3160 When I run avasst uninstall utility see image 3 above basically it says that this is not a valid win32 file. Go figure .
This is why I want to know if I could delete that file from appdata see image 2 and then proceed with the uninstall.

Thanks bob

I haven't used XP in ages but, to me it doesn't look as though you're running avastclear in safe mode?

I get the same problem in safe mode ! Do you happen to know what is that thingy htmldata ? Since it seems to be the culprit in uninstalling avast ( image 2) If you look closer it says right below the firefox image blocked.
Cheers

Tried to delete htmldata got a message saying access denied blocked html cannot be removed  ???

1. blocked.htm is an html page format to display any information into the fields in that form.
2. the image001.png is just that an image, which I presume would be imported into any web detection.

If it is in an avast folder it is likely that the self defence module (troubleshooting section of the UI) is protecting it as it should.

It may well also be locked/used by the web shield in the event of any detections.

In total they are 14KB in size, so why you would want to delete them is beyond me.

 Hey David ,
When I try to uninstall avast it gets stuck Deleting file : c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\avast software\avast\htmldata\image 001.png and winlogon consumes 100% of cpu it never finishes the uninstall process. I did manage to deleted in safe mode however when tried to uninstall avast same thing happened. Forced a reboot. Avast was uninstalled and then I reinstalled once again after a few comedy gold moments you see I had forgot to turn my firewall off and was in the bathroom got back clicked all the yeses on the firewall. Then I got a message this is embarrassing avast service could not start I clicked on start the computer froze then accidentally I clicked on the avast installer I kind of panicked and pushed reboot button . Believe it or not now everything is tickety boo. Avast behaviour  shield does not turn off anymore. I still get that blank window but it goes away as soon as avast is loaded.  I do not really consider that a problem.  8) :)
Bob and Dave thank you
