Persistent Password Request
« on: January 28, 2019, 04:40:55 PM »
Is the default behavior of Avast now asking the configured password to always open its graphical interface? I can no longer look at anything on Avast without receiving this password request with a countdown cancel button to close the program. Other than that, I do not see anything abnormal with the system.

Avast Free. I can not see the version because the window only opens if I enter my password, and I have always opted to cancel and close the window. But I always update to the latest version and would do it now. I can not guarantee that other users who knew the password did not enter it earlier when requested.

You set a password to secure Avast from prying eyes. It makes no sense to share a password.
If you want others to have access, don't bother with a password.
At this point you have one of 2 options, delete the password or, change what requires a password.

I share the password with only three people, one of whom I do not have contact now, and none of them I would rate as prying. Either way, the purpose of the password was to hamper unknown remote access to the Avast settings. So, of the two options, how can I effect the first one without being able to access the interface?

You can't make changes without access to the UI and you'll need to enter the password in order to make any changes.

I vaguely remember saying this in the opening post.  ;D

You implemented those changes.

In the event that neither I nor those who knew the password had implemented it, could it be a malicious attack coming from other software?

Highly unlikely.

That is what I thought after researching the inexistence of similar cases. I will use my password normally and will report the log if there is bad news. Thanks for your availability.
