dsl problems
« on: August 06, 2006, 09:32:04 PM »
i've been trying to connect using verizon dsl but my computer crashes every time. first i tried with the usb connection and yesterday i tried with an ethernet card. after loading the card driver it crashed with "an unknown error has occured" "windows will now close" i think this windows millenium is screwed up. any ideas?

anyway i shut off the avast before doing all this (open the "a" icon and clicking 'stop on access protection) right?  so during the crash an avast box will pop up and say a bug was detected and asks me to write about it and send it in.  why is this happening if avast is turned off?

looks like i'll have to stay with dial up ...

Since the ability to use DSl isn't avast related, I suggest you go here
They should be able to get to the bottom of your problem. :)

so why does that avast popup saying a bug's been detected come up?

verizon has been no help at all. they say we provide the dsl to your computer and it should connect. if it doesn't it's your computers problem.

To answer your question about the avast! pop-up, it would help if you would supply us with the exact message.
I'm sure that's not what Verizon said. All though I don't use Verizon, I have dealt with them on several occasions
and that's not the type of customer service I've ever experienced.

i suppose i could crash my computer again to get the EXACT message.

well that's my experience with verizon. as far as they're concerned if you're getting the dsl signal they've done their job. they don't solve your computer problems. they've told me to contact dell or microsoft. yeah, that'll help!
