Win 8.1 unable to update virus database (because Mullvad)
« on: October 31, 2019, 07:11:27 AM »
Hei. Just came across this, so decided to share.

Avast virus database would not update for some reason (uninstalled & installed the program)
Was saying "DNS something", then "eDNS- something failed" and be stuck in that loop.
Then I disabled Mullvad vpn for a moment. Then it got through & updated.

Added 1#
Huh, for some reason, if I check "virus database updates" after they are updated, it get's stuck to "[100%] Sending statistics" (even if I disabled sending personal info to them). Weird.

Added 2#
And if I try the "update whole program", it get's stuck at "[100%] Downloading file: prod-vsp.vpx".

Added 3#
Those parts "added 1 & 2". That what it show's in the old updater interface. In the new one it just checks and "everything up to date".

Hi heikki.kaperi,

Welcome.

Known GUI bug.  Avast GUI>Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting>Old Settings>Update  See attached below:

Updating works fine if you go here:  Avast GUI>Menu>Settings>Update

See this topic:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=229974.0

EDIT:  Left out a step corrected a day later.   ;)
