14 providers...
« on: September 05, 2006, 07:23:46 PM »
I've been trying to sort out a problem for a friend.  He's running avast home and Windows XP home.

The windows security icon in the taskbar says 'avast4 is switched off'. but the avast 4 'a' icon says 'avast 4 on-access scanner:14 provider(s)total, 4 running.

I though this was a bit weird, because he normally has 7 providers.

His AOL login dialog box says that anti-virus protection is detected.  Does this mean that it agrees that avast is on but only running 4 providers instead of the full 7 which are listed when you open the avast 4 system info?  And why does the avast icon think there should be 14 providers?

Any help much appreciated  ???

Generally, this could be corrected by repairing the installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
