Push new program updates problem
« on: September 28, 2006, 08:15:40 PM »
I have ADNM running on Server 2003 R2.  I have about 60 clients (mostly XPsp2) but a few WIN2000 clients.

The virus scan files update fine but the program versions 4.7.583, etc don't.  So I created a Update task that pushes out the latest program to all the clients and ran it.  Some were successful, but many failed with a 0x0000045A, some failed with a 0x00000020.  More failed than not.  Any idea why?  What is this error?

Hi,

and sorry for the late response.

Program updates are not rolled out automatically in ADNM. They are always on demand - by using an updating task (just as you did).

Error code 0x0000045A translates to "A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed" which sounds quite strange. Could you please send me the file <avast>\setup\setup.log from one of the problematic machines?

Thanks

Vlk,

I am currently testing out Avast ADNM on a Windows 2000 server with Avast Network install on 5 client machines.  Their OS is either Windows XP or Windows 2000 pro.

For some reason I am getting the same Failed (0x0000045A) status after the Update VPS runs.  It happens on all 5 clients but I also noticed if I open the clients Simple User Interface it says it gets the update.  I also noticed if I reboot any of the client machines, then run the Update VPS again, it will have a status of Done (as it should).  It will work w/out the error for a few days then it will return with the Failed (0x0000045A) error.

Is there a known bug or fix for this problem.  I just find it weird that it's happening on all my clients.

Do you know of a fix or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

-Zac

Again, can you please send in the setup.log file (as described in my last post)?

Thanks

This is a confirmed bug in the current version of avast NetClient edition. It will be fixed in the next program update, due just before Xmas.

As a work around, it should suffice to restart the client machine (the problem is caused by some kind of a leak inside the NetAgent service, and takes over a week of continuous run to happen).

Thanks

Agron,

If you cannot reboot the client machines (ie. if it's on a server) you can simply restart the avast! NetAgent service.
