Wal-Mart and HP Offering $398 Laptop -- $199 Laptops Coming for the Holidays?

 Last year Wal-Mart and HP offered a $397 laptop on the big shopping day after Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. They're not waiting around this year, the Compaq v5000z laptop with an AMD Sempron processor is available online and in stores for $398 now (and you can get a new Compaq v3000z for $359 if you're a student or in academics).

This reminds me of a project that is still in progress.
Various companies are working to manufacture a laptop for around $100 for the people in developpement countries.
I can't exactly remember the details, but I am sure you can find a lot of info on it with Google.
