Avast deleted all my download files
« on: March 09, 2021, 08:34:32 AM »
Don’t know where to post this so I’ll do it here.
I just purchased avast and installed several of the applications (ie security, vpn, anti track and cleanup) and since then my entire downloads file was deleted. I ran disk drill to retrieve them but cannot find any files dated prior to today. The folder still exists, just not any content. I think everything else was spared. The files are not that important, but I don’t want to lose anything else.
Any thoughts about which application did this (if avast is responsible ) so I can prevent it happening again? It might be a coincidence but I’ve never had any files disappear before, much less an entire folder, and it coincides with this software being installed.

Thanks

Most likely the Cleanup. I believe the Downloads folder is one of the items that it empties
unless you uncheck that folder.
Caution with the Cleanup, check before you hit the clean button to make sure you only clean wanted items.
