Can't Send JPG Attachments w/4.7 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:10:17 PM »
I have a dial-up account w/Earthlink, and use Avast Home 4.7 antivirus and Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 email client.  I worked with earthlink support because my email times out when trying to send 100K of jpg photo attachments.  The smtp server isn't accepting the upload.  After looking at everything, Earthlink had me shut off my Avast email provider, and said it was causing problems.  Indeed, I can send email with NO PROBLEM when I shut the provider off.  Is there a fix that anyone knows of??

You can disable the outbound (SMTP) mail scanner (at least for a while).
You can increase the timeouts, if you need. But, since avast! version 4.7.807 the mail scanner module ("Internet Mail" provider) has been significantly changed to improve the overall user experience, especially in case of slow connections (dial-up). Namely, most of (if not all) the "Timeout expired" related problems should be gone by now.

You can increase both your avast! timeout: Internet Mail provider > Customize > Advanced (tab)
and your email account timeout (generally, right click the email account, choose properties and the Advanced tab of settings).

See pictures here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=17460.msg148474#msg148474

Anyway, the timeout in the avast scanner is turned off by default in the 4.7 version. Probably you need only to check your email client...

The smtp server isn't accepting the upload.
Are you able to send email without attachments ?

Check out this post by alanrf - re Thunderbird and slow receipt of email, etc. see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23424.msg194826#msg194826 although this is in a Beta Topic it is unrelated to a beta but Thunderbird in general.

See if there is anything in there that might help.
